What to Expect During the Pet Cremation Process

Pet cremation is a respectful choice that allows you to keep your pet’s cremated remains with you at home, or you may choose to scatter them or bury them. When you choose a private onsite crematory at a cemetery, you can rest assured that your pet’s body and cremated remains will be handled with the utmost care and respect. If you do have any questions about how your pet will be handled, you should always feel free to speak up.

Remains Transportation

Bereaved pet parents often find that one of the hardest parts of saying goodbye is bringing their pet’s body to the crematory. If you choose a private facility, you could arrange for professional transportation instead. You can ask the staff to visit your veterinarian’s office or your home. Responsible crematory staff should attach a tag to your pet with your information on it to prevent mix-ups.

Communal Cremation

Communal cremation is one of your choices. It means your pet would be cremated along with a few other deceased companions. The cremated remains comingle, which means that it is not possible to return the remains to you. Instead, all the ashes would be interred in a communal grave in the cemetery, which you may visit at any time to pay your respects.

Private Cremation

If you prefer to keep your pet’s remains at home with you, or to scatter them, you can choose private cremation. Your pet’s body will be rendered into ash separately from any other animal. Afterward, an urn will house the remains.

Cremation Memorials

There are many ways to memorialize your beloved companion. You may create a niche in your home that holds the urn, along with photographs and a few meaningful mementos. You might create a garden or plant a tree in memory of your animal, or you could have memorial jewelry crafted. Another option is to give a donation to an animal rescue organization in memory of your pet.
